Did you know that most animal skin diseases develop secondary to allergies? The good news is we can help! We offer a variety of tests that help diagnose, manage and treat problems with the skin, ears and feet effectively.

Our team is experienced and trained in companion animal dermatology. We are equipped to perform diagnostic testing to determine the underlying cause of many skin conditions. Healing with Heart Veterinary Care will develop treatment programs to manage those hard to treat skin conditions.

We do believe our owners should know there are times the underlying cause of skin disease cannot be identified in our office. In these cases, we will refer your pet to a specialist for further evaluation.

Here at HWHVC whether it’s a blood test, a skin scraping and cytology or a biopsy, we’ll use the best method to determine what is bothering your pet so we can address the problem most appropriately.

Some of the dermatological issues we can provide assistance with include:

  • Allergies
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Dermatitis
  • Chronic Ear Infections
  • Parasites
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Diseases of the Feet
  • Tumors
  • Skin Cancer

After we determine the underlying cause of the problem we will develop a plan that may include oral medications, topical treatments, such as baths or mousses, laser therapy, or in some cases surgery. Treatment protocols will be completely tailored to you and your pet’s unique needs, the condition being treated, its severity and a number of other important factors.

If diagnostic testing indicates that an allergy is to blame for your pet’s symptoms, the next step will be determining what type of allergy is causing the problem. There are many causes of animal allergies. It may be food, environmental allergies, or fleas. Food allergies require a very strict food trial to determine if it is a food allergy. Environmental allergies require blood testing or a skin test. Fleas allergies are really common in our area and the most easily treated.

Some of the signs that your pet may be suffering from a problem with his or her skin, ears or feet include:

  • Scratching more than usual
  • Scabs or flaking skin
  • Fur loss/bald spots
  • Unusual lumps or bumps
  • Biting, chewing or licking excessively at the affected area
  • Foul odor coming from the ears or skin

If you notice any of the signs or symptoms, pick up the phone and schedule an appointment. We can help your animal live a more comfortable life.
